The Charlottesville Municipal Band will resume indoor rehearsals for all members who are two weeks past their final COVID-19 vaccine shot based on current state guidelines on June 1. The band, which lost all of its 98th season to the Corona Virus pandemic, is currently planning their 99th season Summer Concert Series which will present outdoor concerts in a variety of venues in Central Virginia beginning in July. Please check back here on a regular basis to see when and where performances are being scheduled.
The Charlottesville Municipal Band will celebrate a century of music making as the Soundtrack of Central Virginia in 2022. The band would like to share the celebration by inviting composes to write a sixty-second fanfare, Grade 4–5 level, for full symphonic band. The band will select ten works to be performed from those submitted — one to open each concert of the Centennial Season. Composers of the selected works will receive a $250.00 prize and the selected fanfares will also be included on a Centennial CD and the band’s YouTube site along with a biography of each composer. The fanfare remains the property of the composer, but the band retains the right to perform any of the selected works at any time. A complete score and set of parts must be submitted by October 1, 2021. Compositions not selected will be returned to the composer.
Questions should be submitted to Stephen Layman, Music Director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fine Spring Concert program yesterday but we cannot rest on our laurels. We have 6 rehearsals to fine tune things for our 95th season Summer Concert Series which starts June 6. We are excited to have the oppotunity to perform again this summer with the US Army Chorus from Washington DC!
Thank you to the more than 900 people who attended our 94th season Holiday Concert yesterday! 106 bags of food were collected for the Emergency Food Bank.
