Katy Ambrose, Horn
Praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “spectacular” and “graceful” musician, Katy Ambrose enjoys a multifaceted career as performer and educator. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Virginia, and as Principal Horn of the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra. She is a member of Izula Horns, and was co-founder of the internationally renowned Seraph Brass. Her extensive orchestral experience includes positions in the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Northeast PA Philharmonic, Albany Symphony and Lexington Philharmonic, as well as substitute appearances with numerous orchestras including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Hawai’i Symphony, Vermont Symphony, Richmond Symphony, and the Virginia Symphony. Katy has performed on Baroque and Classical horn with the Washington Baroque Consort, the Staunton Music Festival, and in recital. Her experience extends to popular music, most recently for several shows on Adele’s 2016 World Tour. Katy has a special interest in using music as a way to foster growth and understanding within communities: she has taught for, and developed programs for, the Delaware Symphony, “El-Sistema” inspired Play on, Philly!, and the Philadelphia Orchestra School Partnership Program. Katy is currently ABD at Temple University, where she is mentored by Jennifer Montone and Jeffrey Lang.
